HURRAH FOR PEDRO SANCHEZ
Pedro Sanchez is the social-democratic prime minister of Spain. He, alone among European leaders, has come out forthrightly against Trump’s war in Iran. He has described the costs of this war as follows: “Iranian civilians will suffer them disproportionately. And the rest of the world will follow with disrupted transport, higher prices, increased insecurity and greater economic uncertainty.”
Sanchez has refused the use of military bases located on Spanish territory for the US-Israeli War, braving the ire of the Trump administration. If only other leaders would stand up to Trump and his gang instead of acting as lapdogs, with Britain once more near the head of the pack!
The Straits of Hormuz (through which pass 15-20% of the world’s energy supplies) are effectively closed and the world prices of oil and natural gas (widely used as a fuel in electric plants and in fertilizers) are spiking. These costs will trickle down through the economy, dooming efforts to increase affordability. And it seems that the government of Iran will remain guided by the ayatollahs. So what will Trump and the Israelis have gained by all this death and destruction? Zero.
