CROC TEARS OVER the “RULES-BASED ORDER”
Liberal commentators, as well as some leaders of European countries and Canada, have been shedding tears over the demise of the “rules-based order” imposed by the US and its allies on the world since WWII. According to this line of thought world affairs were under control until Trump took power in his second term but are now out of control due to the whims of one man and one country.
Let us remind ourselves that the so-called “rules-based order” allowed the US to intervene whenever and wherever it wanted, overtly as well as covertly. Let us remember the regime changes that the US made or helped to make in Iran, Guatemala, D.R. of Congo, Brazil, Indonesia, and the atrocities of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The “rules-based order” was “follow the US rules or else”.
Now Trump is brazenly and openly trying to do what he wants with US power in Venezuela, Greenland, and elsewhere, and liberals are outraged. But what he is doing is not so new.
