TRYING TO EXPORT XENOPHOBIA
The Trump administration is worried that European countries, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are not doing enough to control immigration. In the words of the State Dept. “mass migration poses an existential threat to Western Civilization.” What is meant by “Western Civilization” is. of course, white Christian culture, and “mass migration” refers to non-white and non-Christian people. The Trump administration wants its closest largely European and European-descended allies to follow the draconian policy it has adopted toward immigrants so that the US does not stand out as unusually cruel and abusive.
Meanwhile, in the US children are being separated from parents by ICE officers while the parents are jailed and investigated for immigration violations. ICE officers ambush green-card holders during their immigration hearings. They hang around immigrant-rich neighborhoods, places of employment, areas where immigrants sell and buy. For immigrants, the US is becoming a police state. Is this what Secretary of State Rubio, himself a son of immigrants, wants for US allies?
