CHURCH, STATE and ABORTION RIGHTS
The anti-abortion movement has white evangelical Christian roots: 74% of white evangelical Protestants think abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. 82% of religiously unaffiliated white Americans say abortion should be legal in most or all cases. Of the total US population, 38% is anti-abortion and 60% pro- abortion. These last figures seem very similar to pro-Trump and anti-Trump politics.
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned abortions have actually increased, largely due to the availability of abortion pills. As a result some anti-abortion activists even want to prosecute pregnant women who have abortions. How is it that a minority of the US population gets to make laws that the majority rejects? Why are minority religious groups allowed to make laws that cover medical decisions women concerned should make?
