IRAN: US THREAT
Iran (pop.85 million) is once more in the news. Its economy is in deep trouble, partly due sanctions and partly due to mismanagement. This has caused anti-government demonstrations, repressed with force, causing thousands of casualties. Iran was bombed by the US and Israel in June 2025 to stop its enrichment of uranium and to punish Iran for supporting anti-Israel groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.
Pres. Trump has sent the Abraham Lincoln carrier group toward the Persian Gulf to threaten Iran. Further air attacks, more extensive than the ones in June, are contemplated. There are elements in the US government and Iranian exile groups calling for “regime change”. But further attacks on Iran would be dangerous. Not only would many lives be at risk, but any attack could backfire, rallying the Iranian people to support the government. Iran is a large country with an ancient culture, not easily intimidated. It could strike US assets and those of its neighbors in the Middle East with its large stock of ballistic missiles. Trump’s foreign adventurism must be stopped.
