THE US WITHDRAWAL FROM UNESCO
On July 22 the US announced that it would withdraw from UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) by the end of 2026. UNESCO, with its headquarters in Paris, designates World Heritage sites and promotes educational programs (including support for education in Africa, Holocaust remembrance, and journalists’ safety), literacy, clean water, and equality for women.
This is the third UN agency the US has announced it would withdraw from, the other two being the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Human Rights Council.
The reasons for withdrawal from UNESCO are its alleged bias against Israel and its alleged “…globalist ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy.”
The US has been doubling down on its pro-Israel stance, in spite of the continuing horrors in Gaza, including support for a food distribution program resulting in increasing cases of malnutrition and starvation. Not only is Israel the focus of support for powerful Jewish and evangelical Christian groups, but it is a spear into the heart of the Middle East, keeping countries in the area off-balance.
